What is CoverMyCamera?
CoverMyCamera is one-click local privacy for your MacBook's built-in camera, plus system-wide microphone mute. It runs on your Mac — not in the cloud.
Does it work with USB / external webcams?
No. CoverMyCamera controls the built-in MacBook camera only.
Which Macs and macOS versions are supported?
macOS Tahoe (26) or later on MacBooks with a built-in camera.
Does it mute the microphone too?
Yes. You get system-wide microphone mute/unmute, including privacy presets and global hotkeys.
How is this different from a physical webcam cover?
CoverMyCamera is software: instant on/off, mic mute, hotkeys, and fail-open restore — no sliding cover or adhesive. A physical cover still blocks the lens if you prefer hardware.
Does CoverMyCamera collect telemetry or analytics?
No. There is no product telemetry, crash reporting, or usage analytics. Paid builds only contact licensing services for purchase, activation, and status checks. The website does not use analytics cookies.
Can my camera get permanently stuck off?
No. Fail-open design restores the camera if the app or helper fails, so privacy controls cannot leave the camera permanently disabled.
Where do privacy controls run?
Locally on your Mac. There is no remote control plane for camera or microphone privacy state.
How much does it cost?
CoverMyCamera is $12.99 USD one-time. There is no subscription.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. After you download the app, open Settings → Licensing and start a free 24-hour local trial. No account or email is required. When the trial ends, a paid license unlocks full camera and microphone privacy controls.
How many Macs per license?
Your license may be activated on up to three Macs.
How do I get or recover my license key?
After purchase, your key appears on the confirmation page and is emailed by Creem. If you need help, contact support@covermycamera.app.

Are updates included?
Yes. Lifetime updates are included for the current major version.
How do I install it?
Download the macOS DMG from the Download page, open it, install the app, and approve the helper / permissions prompted in-app.
How do I uninstall?
Remove the app and helper cleanly from the app or System Settings. There is no lock-in and no hidden remote privacy control.
